How to Install Android Oreo 8.1 Developer Preview 2 On Pixel & Nexus Devices

Google released Android Oreo 8.1 a few weeks before with some performance improvements and bug fixes for the Nexus and the Pixel devices. The 2nd Developer preview of Android Oreo 8.1 is now available for download for those who have signed up for the beta development program.

The update is now available in the form of OTA with the build number OPP6.171019.012 and it comes with some minor bug fixes and a few new features that are aimed at improving the user experience. Currently the devices that support this new developer preview 2 include Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel C, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and Nexus Player.

If you own any of the above mentioned devices and have signed up for the beta development program, then you can check for the OTA update by going to Settings->About Device->System updates. If you have not yet received the update or if you have not signed up for the beta program, you can now manually install the Android Oreo 8.1 Developer preview 2 update on your device by following the below instructions.

How to Install Android Oreo 8.1 Developer Preview 2 On Pixel & Nexus Devices

Step 1:

First make sure that the bootloader of your device is unlocked and you have the ADB, Fastboot and the USB drivers for your device installed on your PC.

Step 2:

Make sure that you take a complete backup of your device and have atleast 60% of battery left before you proceed with the installation process.

Step 3:

Now download the OTA update for Android Oreo 8.1 Developer Preview 2 for your device from the links below.

Step 4:

Once you have downloaded the OTA zip file, extract it by creating a new folder on your PC.

Step 5:

Now switch off your device and then reboot to the fastboot mode. To do this, you have to first switch off your device and then press and hold your volume down and power buttons until the boot screen appears.

Step 6:

Now connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

Step 7:

Now open the folder where you extracted the downloaded OTA zip file and then open the Flash-all.bat file to begin the installation process.

Step 8:

Wait till the installation process is completed and your device will reboot automatically.
